OUR HISTORY
Between cousins, in Lille, sitting on a sofa, we watched the world worry from afar. Via a relative who works for the Partage et Vie Foundation (EHPADS and MAS, Maisons of Specialized Reception), we understood the urgency, the isolation, and the lack of love of all these confined people. “Okay, enough talking, how do we act now?” “It took us the time of a lunch to take action. Only one alternative in sight: letters. Today, our generation abandoned a way of communication, but dear to people elderly. Some retirement homes had also launched a call for help on social networks, asking for emails, letters, and drawings. Therefore, by responding to real asks that 1 letter 1 smile is born.
OUR VALUES
Our values reflect those of a band of cousins, and the love they promoted.
SIMPLICITY
We are simple, informal and down-to-earth. We want each step the letters go through – from when they are written to when they are distributed – to be a simple and & pleasant experience for the humans involved. Simplicity starts between our team’s interactions.
FLEXIBILITY
Whatever we are doing today, we will do better tomorrow. Our success – and much of the fun – lies in developing new ways to bring joy into the senior’s life. Today we do so by sending letters, but we might do something completely different tomorrow. One goal – create smiles.
LOVE
We put our heart in everything we do. We do less if doing more reduce the quality because 1 real smile is way better than 100 fake smiles. Togetherness is at the heart of the 1L1S culture. We are stronger when we trust each other, pull in the same direction and have fun together.
THE FOUNDING COUSINS
10 cousins, ages from 14 to 24, students or schooled in Lille, Paris, The Hague, Lausanne, Montreal…
From engineers to comedians, salespeople to fans of literature, we all became postmen to spread your words of love.
MATHILDE, 22
Whether as a French teacher in Zimbabwe or rugby coach in Morocco, in the library or on the field, she is always happy.
CHARLES, 18
Currently at the Hague’s international school, he would gladly replace 95% of his high school classes with surf classes.
BLANCHE, 21
An IT student in Lausanne, she would rather prioritize her aquatic and high altitude challenges than her trips to the library.
JOSEPH, 15
Year 10 pupil in Lille, he excels in the art of surfing on the internet, either for nerdy information or recordings of the matches of Olympique de Marseilles.
RENAUD, 21
Sporty and studying engineering in Lille, he is faster at emptying beers and doing push-ups than finishing his assignments on time.
HORTENSE, 24
Actress, student and gardener, we never know from where she’s going to enter: yard or garden? Intermittently waiting for fame, she is a respected elder.
JEANNE, 16
In year 11 in Lille, she is our big-hearted pianist. She is better at socialising than using logarithm functions.
BONI, 15
At the German school of the Hague, he quickly replaced his school lessons with acrobatics on the trampoline.
ALIENOR, 23
Unable to decide between being a ski teacher, an urban farmer or a Data analyst she’s probably going to end up being a sous-chef somewhere warm.
SOLANGE, 18
A fan of literature with a passionate nature, she is in prépa in the Paris region. She can talk for hours about Spinoza, art, or about her projects, which most of the time is confusing.
